The Downfield Golf Club Winter League first started in 1970, primarily to provide a competitive interest throughout the winter months. The league usually starts around the third week in October and continues through until late March. The format for the competition is a four-ball better-ball match with two teams consisting of one player from Section A and one from Section B. The current league has 34 players and 2 reserves will be used every week so that a 36 player fixture list can be followed. There will also be 5 other reserves who will step in on an ad-hoc basis to cover absences. The division between the sections is based on the lowest 18 handicaps at the time the league starts.
